Which Insurance Do You Need for Your Visa?

The Spanish government requires your health insurance to meet the 4 requirements the Spanish Consulate demands to approve your visa.

No Limits on Hospital Costs

Full coverage with no maximum caps. The policy must cover all medical costs with no cap on what it pays out.

No Co-payments

You never pay out of pocket. The insurance covers 100% of your medical costs, with no cost-sharing on your part.

No Waiting Periods

Coverage from day one. There are no waiting times before you can use medical services.

Medical Repatriation

Includes transfer back to your home country in the event of a serious medical emergency that requires treatment there.

Not every insurance on the market is consulate-approved. As a specialist brokerage, we help you find the right policy for your visa at no extra cost.

Not sure which one meets all the requirements? We'll check it for you.

Frequently asked questions!

Yes, all our policies fully meet the requirements set by the Spanish Consulate for the student visa. We give you the official documentation you need to submit.

Yes, the whole process is 100% online. You can arrange it from any country. We send you the documentation by email and stay available on WhatsApp.

You have access to private medical care depending on the plan you choose. We explain how your insurance works and support you with any task you need to handle.

It depends on the company and the type of policy. We tell you the conditions before you sign and help you if you need to make changes.

The price depends on your age and the length of your stay. In general, policies that meet the Consulate's requirements cost between €480 and €700 per year. At AlumnusCare we compare the options available for your profile and show you the real prices from each insurer, at no extra cost for our service.

They are completely different products. Travel insurance covers occasional emergencies during a short trip and does not meet the Spanish Consulate's requirements. Student-visa insurance must have no co-payments, no waiting periods, no limits on hospital costs and include medical repatriation. Buying travel insurance thinking it works for the visa is the most common mistake we see, and it can delay your process by months.

Yes, the insurance covers the entire Spanish territory, no matter which city you study in: Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville or anywhere else. It also includes coverage outside Spain for emergencies and accidents when you travel around Europe (the Schengen area), with coverage between €12,000 and €35,000 depending on the plan.

Yes, we arrange insurance for students from all over the world who are going to study in Spain. We have the most experience with students from Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Peru, Honduras, Venezuela and Ecuador, but we've supported students from more than 30 countries across all 5 continents. The whole process is 100% online, and we can assist you in English and Spanish, from any country of origin.

At AlumnusCare we can issue your policy up to 6 months before you arrive in Spain, giving you plenty of time to get everything ready without stress.

According to the official requirements of Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the insurance must cover your entire study period, date to date, from start to finish exactly as stated in your enrolment. If your studies last more than a year, it must cover at least the first twelve months.

Our recommendation is always for the coverage to start from the day you land in Spain, which in many cases is before the official course start date. At AlumnusCare we review your enrolment dates with you to make sure the policy meets exactly what the Consulate requires.
